Tough news.
Seemed like he loved his wife as much as he loved living life to the fullest, which is quite a "witness" to the rest of the world.
Thanks for the time, Croc Dude.

Awesome School!
It is so worth it. He's going to be much smarter and better for it. My parents were torn when I left but they loved hearing about my adventures too. -

What Kinds of Weird Things were you banned from or not allowed as a child?
by mama1119 ini could not have a big new kids on the block pin, or wear any new kids on the block pins in puplic becuase it was considered idolatry.
i also could not wear my shoes without laces (it was cool back then) because it looked wordly.
what other strange theings besides the usual holiday/birthday stuff weren't you allowed to do?

I think that we had a lot of the above mentioned but the absolute worst for me was the sitting during the National Anthem. I hated it! Everyone staring assuming I was un-American, which I certainly was not.
Now I love the National Anthem. I sing out loud with all my might, hand or hat on heart and I am proud! I love
C'mon, hand over heart, sing the first verse with me!
O say, can you see, by the dawn's early light,
What so proudly we hail'd at the twilight's last gleaming?
Whose broad stripes and bright stars, thro' the perilous fight,
O'er the ramparts we watch'd, were so gallantly streaming?
And the rockets' red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
e proof thro' the night that our flag was still there.
O say, does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

A lot of great advice already, so all I'll say is the degree is totally worth it. There are so many programs to get you into school. Good grades will keep you there. I had no financial assistance from my parents, a lot don't. You may accrue some debt; especially in Grad school if you choose to go (work for a company that will pay). So what. It's cheap money. Work hard and talk to a lot of people about any help they have had or received. People, or at least I, really enjoy helping those that help themselves. You're on the right path.
One bit of advice, if you get out of school and you get a job but then you don't care for it... go and get another. Don't be unhappy. Do what you like. With your degree you'll be able to make choices and decisions based on what "you" want to do, not others and certainly not the borg.
You'll meet so many cool people in College. That's where I really realized that the Jehobees were all nuts; more importantly that I wasn't nuts.
Go Get 'em, Tiger!

Do You Like Your Given Name?

Yes, I do love my name... the whole thing, first, middle and last. My Y-Donor was a total tool but I still like my last name, but I think of him every time I say it. Oh yeah, he was an elder for many years or all the years I was a kid and before.
Mildred, I have an aunt Mildred and she rocks the house! I love that name. Legolas, we mightg be related, in a parallel elf world: Olwë Anwamanë -

Name Things JWs Try To "Demonize"
by minimus inthe witnesses are always trying to scare the faithful by telling them that if they don't adhere to the teachings and lifestyle of the brotherhood-----that bad things are going to happen to them.
for example, they might tell you of brother regret who left the "truth", had "fun" in the "world" and then got aids.
now he's back in the "truth" but he only has months to live................can you think of other examples of how the witnesses try to spook the rank and file?

One sister told me the reason that oral sex was so enjoyable is because the demons were participating
I must have dated a Demon in College. I totally forgot that Oral Sex was against the rules... oops. I remember asking why once, though I had no idea what it was, and my aunt saying, "oh, Sailor, I'm never eating at your house."

Teenager, early '80s: Van Halen, Judas Priest, Dio, Metallica;
Late '80s: Ratt and Roll, Baby!; Motley Crue.
'90s: Black Flag, Ministry, Skinny Puppy, NeerVanna, I loved and still do all the "grunge."
Now: Hard (Speed, Death, etc...) Metal. I actually go to see some Metal shows when they come to town. Mosh pits are still great!
Over that entire time, if there's beer, bait or ammo involved its got to be Pre-'85 Country or Western or both: David Allan Coe, Lefty Frizzell, Gary Stewart, George Strait or Jones, Alabama, Hank both, Vern Gosdin, Buck Owens, John Anderson, et cetera.

You just put into words, and quite eloquently, what I've felt for some time.
Good for you. I buy you one pint of whatever you want. -

I asked a while back in another thread of any known, actual Demon sightings or presence. I heard so much about every freakin' thing being "Demonized" that I'm sure someone would have seen something. Nothing that couldn't be explained medically.
Back to the thread, my cousins and I were told by a Sis at the Hall that the movie Close Encounters of the Third Kind was demonized as, ready for this: God is the first encounter, Jesus is the second; see where this is going? Yes, Satan was the Third.
Absolute lunacy. I should start a "Ghostbuster" business and promote myself to the Dubs.
